Chillicothe Animal Shelter

A pet's adoption fee will sometimes be higher due to veterinary costs for illness or injury, or due to the fact that it's a "popular" breed. The higher adoption fees allow us to collect a little more in donations for those left behind at the shelter. There will also be cases where the normal adoption fee will be lower because the pet has a sponsor, which allows us to adopt the pet out at a lower fee.

Lesley and the Shelter volunteers often know the dogs and cats currently waiting for a new home. They'll be glad to answer any questions you may have and will work hard to match you with a dog or cat which will "fit" with you and your family.

Questions To Ask

• How does the dog/cat get along with other dogs/cats?
• Would the dog/cat be suitable in a home with young children?
• Would this dog need a good deal of exercise?
• If adopting a puppy, do you have the time to housetrain your new puppy?
• Would an older dog be a better choice if I work during the day?
• Is the dog house trained and/or crate trained?
• If the dog requires training, are you prepared to make that commitment?
