What'S Happening At The shelter

In January 2011, the Livingston County Humane Society partnered
with the Missouri Department of Corrections in what we hope will
be a long and successful venture called "Puppies For Parole". This partnership brings together dogs and
inmates at the Women's Correctional Facility in Chillicothe,
Missouri. The dogs are partnered with an offender and
begin a three month schooling course which involves teaching basic
obedience skills as well as socializing the dog. The
personnel at the Correctional Facility are given first option
for adopting the enrolled dogs. If the dogs are not
adopted by personnel, they are then listed on the MDOC
Puppies For Parole website, and are available for adoption
through the program. If they are not adopted through the
MDOC Puppies For Parole program, they are returned to us here at
the shelter, and will then be available for adoption through the
shelter.
We have enrolled three candidates into the course, beginning in January. We will be following their progress and we have confidence that they'll graduate with flying colors!! Left to right are, Jess, Austin, and Frito. If you are interested in becoming a potential adopter for Jess, Austin, or Frito in the event they are returned to the shelter, please contact us so that we may put you on our list. Thank you!!
UPDATE:: -- Jess, Frito, and Austin have potential adopters from the Correctional Facility personnel!!! WAY TO GO JESS, FRITO, AND AUSTIN!! We are so proud of you!!!
